Irregular Simple Past A-C



Step 1:  Irregular Simple Past A-C 

Student A. Practice past tense negative with your partner.

1.   She became a doctor. → No, she didn’t become a doctor.

3.   The dog bit her. → No, the dog didn't bite her.   , morder, picar 

5.   She broke her arm. → No, she didn't break her arm.

7.   They built a new highway. → No, they didn't build a new highway. 高速公路, autopista

9.   She caught a cold. → No, she didn't catch a cold. 患 感 冒, resfriarse

11. She came to class late today. → No,she didn't come to class late today.

13. She cut herself on the glass. → No, she didn't cut herself on the glass.




Step 1:  Student B. Practice past tense negative with your partner.

2.   He began to feel better. → No, he didn’t begin to feel better.

4.   The wind blew /blu/ hard last night. →  No, the wind didn't blow hard last night.

     Meaning: It was very windy last night.  →  No, it wasn't very windy last night.

6.   She brought her book to class. → No, she didn't bring her book to class.

8.   She bought an iPad yesterday. → No, she didn't buy a new iPad yesterday.

10. She chose the yellow dress. →   No, she didn't choose /tʃuz/ the yellow dress.

12. The prescription* cost $20. → No, the prescription didn't cost $20.  处方, 药方, receta




Step 2. Irregular Simple Past A-C.  Student A. Practice past tense with your partner.

1.   Did he become a doctor? → Yes, he became a doctor.

3.   Did the dog bite* him? → Yes, the dog bit him.    , morder, picar 

5.   Did he break his arm? → Yes, he broke his arm.

7.   Did they build a new freeway*? → Yes, they built a new freeway.  高速公路, autopista

9.   Did he catch a cold? → Yes, he caught a cold.    患 感 冒, resfriarse

11. Did he come to class late today? → Yes, he came to class late today.

13. Did he cut himself on the glass? → Yes , he cut himself on the glass.

Step 2:  Student B. Practice past tense with your partner.
2.   Did he begin to feel better? → Yes, he began to feel better.

4.   Did the wind blow /bloʊ/ hard last night? →  Yes, the wind blew /blu:/ hard last night.

     Meaning: Was it very windy last night?  →  Yes, it was very windy last night.

6.   Did he bring his wallet? → Yes, he brought his wallet.

8.   Did he buy a new iPad yesterday? → Yes, he bought a new iPad yesterday.

10. Did she choose /tʃu:z/ the yellow dress? → Yes, she chose /tʃoʊz/ the yellow dress.

12. Did the prescription cost $20? → Yes, the prescription cost $20.  处方, 药方, receta



Step 3:  Irregular Simple Past A-C 

Student A. Answer no, followed by simple past tense and the word in parentheses.

Example:  Did he become a doctor? (teacher) → No, he became a teacher.

1.    Did he become a doctor? (lawyer) → No, he became a lawyer. / jər / , abogado

3.    Did the dog bite /baɪt/ him? (me)→ No, the dog bit me.

5.    Did he break /breɪk/ his arm? → (his leg) No, he broke /broʊk/ his leg.

7.    Did they build /bɪld/ a new freeway? (school) → No, they built /bɪlt/a new school.

9.    Did he catch the flu? (a cold) → No, he caught /kͻt/ a cold.

11.  Did he come to class late today? (on time)→ No, he came to class on time today.

13.  Did he cut himself on the glass? (on the sharp knife)→ No, he cut himself on the sharp knife.

 

Step 3:  Student B. (Verbs A-C) Answer no, followed by simple past tense and the word in parentheses.

Example:  Did he become a doctor? (teacher) → No, he became a teacher.

2.   Did he begin to feel better? (worse) → No, he began to feel worse.

4.   Did he bring his dictionary with him? (textbook)→ No, he brought /brͻt/ his textbook with him.

6.   Did he buy a new iPad yesterday? (iPhone)→ No, he bought /bͻt/ a new iPhone yesterday.

8.   Did he choose /tʃuz/ the blue pants? (green pants)→   No, he chose /tʃoʊz/ the green pants.

10. Did it cost $20? ($50)→ No, it cost $50.
