Note: Have/has + a person, place, or thing are not aux-words. Use do/does/did + subject + base form.

No aux-word?  Use do/does/did + subject+ base form.

a.   Tien was a butcher before he came here.

b.  Maria worked as a clerk* in her country. *办事员, 办公室工作人员, oficinista, administrativa)

     → Did Maria work as a clerk in her country? (no aux-word→ do/does/did+ subject + base form)
