The Superlative

The Superlative
Use the superlative to rank (分等,classificar/poner en..lugar, классифици́ровать, يصنف حسب المرتبة) a person or thing at the top or bottom of a group of three or more things. Here are the rules for forming it:
1. If the base form of the adjective has one syllable, use the ____-est + noun.
lean / leaner / the leanest cuts of meat
2. If the base form of the adjective has two syllables and ends in y, use the ____-est + noun.
hungry / hungrier / the hungriest man
3. If the base form of the adjective has two or more syllables and doesn’t end in y,
use the most _____ + noun.
difficult / more difficult / the most difficult food to digest*
                                                                                              *消化, digerir, перева́ривать, هضم
4. Irregular forms: bad        worse      the worst
                               good      better      the best
far          farther     the farthest (for physical distance)
far          further     the furthest (for time or thought)
Another way to remember:
— If the comparative uses -er, the superlative uses the  …est.
                                bigger → the biggest
— If the comparative uses more, the superlative uses the most…
more fattening → the most fattening
