Comparative with -ER and MORE ____



A. Compare the following things. These words only have one syllable.
1.  a hill  a mountain  (big) → A mountain is bigger than a hill.
2.  canned tuna   fresh tuna  (cheap)
3.  summer  fall in the U.S.  (cool) 
4.  speaking English  speaking your native language (hard)
5.  Canada Mexico  (hot)
6.  an hour  a half hour (long)
7.  fake* flowers  fresh flowers  (nice) *not real

B. Compare the following things. These words have two syllables and end with -y.
1.  Queen Elizabeth  Jennifer Lopez  (pretty)
     Jennifer Lopez is prettier than Queen Elizabeth.
2.  writing in your language   writing in English (easy)
3.  7:00 a.m.  5:00 a.m.  (early)  
4.  concrete  wood  (heavy)

C. Compare the following things. These words have two, three, or more syllables and do not end with -y.
1.  buses at 11:00 a.m.  buses at 7:30 a.m. (crowded)
2.  a Chevrolet   a Mercedes (expensive)
