Contrasting PRESENT PERFECT and SIMPLE PRESENT

Answering Present Perfect Questions with Ever

a.  Have you ever won more than $10 before?  yes  Jack
     When? last year in Reno   How much? $500
     Other:  How did you spend it? He used it to gamble some more.                                             
b. Have you ever met a famous person before?  yes  Lisa
     When?  last year when she was working at the Mark Hopkins Hotel
     Who?    Lang Lang, the famous Chinese pianist
     Other:  What was s/he like? He was shy, but polite.
c. Have you ever taken music lessons before?  yes  Roland 
     When? from age 6 to 21    What instrument? the clarinet
     Other:  Did you play in a band? He played in the Spokane Symphony. (交响乐)
d. Have you ever been in a car accident before?  yes  Mia 
    When? when she was 15
    Other:  Did anyone get hurt?  Her mother got whiplash. (颈部扭伤, traumatismo cervical, тра́вма ше́и в результа́те ре́зкого движе́ния)
                    Whose fault (错, вина́) was it? ¿Quién fue el culpable? It was the other driver's fault.

                    What did you do for a living when you lived there? (=How did you earn money?) Her parents supported* her. (*gave her money to live)
