Put the two sentences together. Begin
with While… In some sentences, both
parts may be in past continuous. In others, one part may be in past continuous
and the other part in simple past.
Examples
a. The man
talk. His friend eat an ice cream cone.
à While
the man was
talking,
his friend was
eating an
ice cream cone.
b. The woman
drive. She suddenly see a man in the street.
à While
the woman was
driving,
she suddenly saw a man in the street.
1. The man cross
the street. A car suddenly hit him.
à
2. The woman
talk on her cell phone. She drive way (=much) too fast.
à
3. People wait
for the ambulance to come. A witness (证人, testigo, свиде́тель, شاهد) answer a police officer’s questions.

4. One paramedic
take the victim’s pulse (脉搏, pulso, пульс, سرعة النبض). Another paramedic clean his wound and
bandage his head.

5. Everyone in
the crowd watch. The police handcuff (们把扣上手铐,
esposar, над|ева́ть, يكبل،يصفد) the driver.

1. While the man
was
crossing the street, a car suddenly hit him.
2. While the
woman was
talking on her cell phone, she was driving way too fast.
3. While people were waiting for the ambulance to come, a witness was answering a police officer’s questions.
4. While one
paramedic was
taking the victim’s pulse, another
paramedic was
cleaning his wound and (he was) bandaging his
head.
5. While
everyone in the crowd was
watching, the police handcuffed the driver.
